Three animals — the goat, the rooster and the dove — frightened Orunmila with lies so he would not go to Ife, and he hid inside a hollow log. A pregnant woman found him; he explained everything to the king, and the three liars were left to be used for ebbó.
Olofin sent for Orunmila to go to the land of Ife, where there were many dead. As he set out, a stranger told him not to go, that he had heard bad talk about him; further on, another told him a trap was being set for him; and a third, that they were waiting to kill him. This time Orunmila took fright, fled into the bush and hid inside a hollow log.
A pregnant woman, out gathering firewood, went to cut the log; at the first blow of the axe she heard a song, and recognizing Orunmila she found him inside. She told him people were sad not to see him, gave him her food and went to tell the king, who showered her with riches and servants. Before the king, Orunmila explained that he had not come sooner because of the goat, the rooster and the dove, who had frightened him with lies. Olofin ruled: «from today the three of them will serve for ebbó and for food»; Oshún will eat the goat and he himself the dove, and Orunmila kept the woman, the riches and the servants.
