1Orunmila carries the salvation of Ifá

The town was looking for someone to lead it with wisdom and thought of Orunmila; others, though, were taken over by envy and hunger for power, and decided to get rid of him. Orunmila looked at this Ifá that day, and it warned him not to go to any meeting he was called to and not to take any post, because there was a trap. Once everyone was gathered, the majority voted to name him their representative; Orunmila's answer was this: "I have been among you for a time and I have taught you how to live to be happy, but I cannot stay forever, because my mission is to travel the world carrying the knowledge and the salvation of Ifá; among you there are honest people who can do a lot for the happiness of the town". And he left that land so they could sort out their own affairs.

A town gathered to deliberate because it needed someone with wisdom at its head, someone to run its affairs for the good of all, and the name they agreed on was Orunmila's. They went out to look for him. As always happens, envy and hunger for power sprang up among some, and they agreed among themselves to get Orunmila out of the way.

That same day Orunmila made himself an osode and this Ifá came out. The letter warned him that, if they came to call him to a meeting, he should not go, and that he should not let them put any post on him either, because the envious and the selfish had a trap set for him.

When the meeting was held, the opinion of the majority was to name Orunmila: that he represent them and work for the happiness of all. Orunmila then took the floor: "I have already been among you for some time and I have taught you how you should live so you can be happy; but I cannot stay with you forever in this land, because my mission is to travel the world to carry the knowledge, the good ways and the salvation of Ifá to everyone who hears me in the different lands I pass through. I am sure that among you there are honest and good people who can do a lot for the happiness of the town".

Having said that, he left that land and left them with their affairs, so they would sort them out themselves.

2Orunmila and the masons

Orunmila healed and won where no one else could, and for that the masons decided to kill him and invited him to a meeting. A son of his, a mason too, knew about the trap: he asked him to attend and to leave as soon as he gave him a sign, and he had a tunnel ready in the bathroom for him to escape. Orunmila went; when he saw the sign he asked to be excused, went into the bathroom and came out through the tunnel. Those present noticed he was taking long and looked for him through the whole temple, but he was already gone. With his merits recognized this way, from then on the masons agreed to ask for help with a sign when in danger, not to fight among brothers over differences of religion or over statutes of government, and to put tiles of every color in their halls, as a sign of the love owed to every race and every creed, because under the starry sky no one is worth more than another before Olofin.

This road tells that Orunmila healed and won there where no one else managed it. That cost him dearly: the masons agreed to kill him and, to that end, invited him to a meeting. A son of his was a mason and knew about the trap; he asked his father to attend, but also to leave as soon as he saw him give a sign. Orunmila went to the meeting. When he got his son's sign, he asked to be excused, went into the bathroom and came out at the agreed place.

That is how the masons recognized how much Orunmila was worth, and from that day the mason brothers agreed to ask for help with a sign whenever they were in danger; not to go to war among brothers over differences of religion or over statutes of government; and to cover the floors of their halls with tiles of every color, as a sign of the love owed to every race and every creed, because under the starry sky no one is worth more than another before Olofin.

3How Elegbara saved his son

Elegbara's son was being waited for by his enemies at the spot he had to pass on his road, ready to do him harm. Elegbara, who knew about the treachery, went out after him and from far off saw him coming right up to the place where the others were hidden. So, by his virtue, he sent him a huge urge to urinate: the boy left the road, went into the woods and took so long there that his father was able to catch up with him and get him out of there through the woods, leaving the enemies fooled.

A son of Elegbara was fenced in by enemies. They were posted at the spot he had to pass, meaning to do him harm.

Elegbara learned of the betrayal they were preparing for the boy and went out to look for him. From far off he spotted him: the son was walking straight toward his enemies' hiding place.

So Elegbara used his power and woke in him a huge urge to urinate. The son left the road and went into the bush to do it, and he took so long urinating that Elegbara had time to come up to him, take him and get him out of there through the bush. That way his son's enemies were left tricked.
