Osa Yeku is the Odù of tribute to the Earth: here Olordumare shared out his kingdom and Eshu asked for — and was given — the rule of the Earth. Its arithmetic is simple: sacrifice secures long life — without it, death is certain: pay the Earth, and the Earth lengthens your days.

Its destiny points to the countryside: they are waiting to give you charge of a piece of land — you will have to live in the country or outside the city. You are a child of Orishaoko and you do not do what you should: that is why you are poor and held back — receive him, make Santo if this odu calls for it, and the farm of your destiny opens its gates.

The Ifá of the sacrifice that secures long life: if you do not sacrifice, death is certain — Onatooro and Onagboro sacrificed and their lives were made longer. The Ifá of charge over a piece of land: they are waiting to give you the authority — you will have to live in the country or outside the city. An Ifá of debts with the Saints: a promise made for a child is owed that has never been kept — possibly to Azojuano; it has to be paid to avoid trouble. An Ifá where your enemies live alongside you, and you see them in dreams. An Ifá of needing other people: here, in order to live, you need other people's help — like Tobías, who traded fish for vegetables.

1The power Osain was missing

Osain went about the world looking for the power he was missing and, worn out, went to see his great friend Orunmila, who saw this Odù for him: «To reach the power you are looking for you have to eat something you have never eaten — a frizzled rooster». «The thing is, that frightens me», Osain answered. «Take its left eye out and kill it on the ground through the mouth». So Osain ate frizzled rooster (akukó shashará) and reached the power he wanted.

Osain was missing one power and he went all over the world after it. Tired now of so much searching, he went to see Orunmila, a great friend of his, who made him osode. This Odù came out in the reading, and Orunmila spoke to him like this: "For you to reach the power you are looking for, you have to eat something you have never eaten, which is curly-feathered rooster."

"Fine, but that scares me, eating it," Osain answered. And Orunmila told him: "Take out its left eye and kill it on the ground through the mouth."

Osain obeyed: he ate curly-feathered rooster (akukó shashará) and with that he got the power he was looking for.

2Where Olofin shared out everything of his

When the creation of the Earth was finished, Olofin handed out what was his and gave each Osha and each Orisha their power. On the next to last day Eshu came, and he asked for the rule of the Earth for himself; Olofin gave it to him.

When Olofin declared the creation of the Earth finished, he set out to hand out all that was his, and he gave each Osha and each Orisha the power that belonged to them.

By the next to last day, Eshu came before him and asked for the rule of the Earth for himself. Olofin agreed. That is where Eshu's power over the Earth comes from.

3When Olokun and Yemayá saved the people

In one land it had not rained for a long time and the rivers began drying up. The head of the tribe went to Orunmila's house, and he saw this Odù for them: «To come out of this disaster you have to make sacrifice to Olokun and Yemayá». The chief and his people made ebbó and sacrificed to these Saints, and a few days later it began to rain over that land.

In a certain land it had not rained for a long time, and the rivers were already drying up. The chief of a tribe then decided: "Let us go to Orunmila's house." Orunmila made them osode, saw this Odù for them and spoke to them like this: "For you to get out of that disaster, you have to make sacrifice to Olokun and Yemayá."

The chief, together with his people, made ebbó and offered to those Santos. A few days later the rain fell on that land.
