1The mother of the trees

A reading was made for the mother of the trees: she was to sacrifice an axe and a machete to prevent her children's death. She refused — and that is why those are the tools used to cut down her children, the trees, to this day. Sacrifice so you do not lose your children to the devilish scheming of humankind.

«Ebara Okonron wii» made the reading for the mother of the trees, and she was told to make sacrifice so as to prevent the danger of her children's death. She was told to sacrifice with an axe and a machete — but she refused to make the sacrifice.

2The pounded yam

«The bronze gong rang kanigo-kanigo, and its sound on earth is not heard in heaven»: those were the Awoses who read for the yam before it came down. It was to sacrifice a rooster and a white cloth, and it did not: on reaching the earth it was made to suffer being pounded in a mortar before it took shape and name. People will not hesitate to strike you: make the sacrifice.

The bronze gong was struck and it rang kanigo-kanigo; the drum was beaten and it rang jigi-guo. The sound of the bronze gong on earth is not heard in heaven; the sound of the drum on earth is not heard in heaven. Those were the Awoses who made the reading for the pounded yam before it left heaven to come to earth.

It was told to make sacrifice with a rooster and a white cloth, but it did not. When it reached the earth, it was made to suffer being pounded in a mortar before it took shape and name. When this Odù appears: make sacrifice, since people will not hesitate to strike you or kill you — and to prevent the loss of children.

3The Masked One (Egungun)

The Masked One was told to sacrifice for his honor, his prosperity and his standing before leaving heaven: he sacrificed different cloths, a rooster, a pigeon and a hen. When he appeared on earth he was received with joy and respect, and the people followed him wherever he went — and that is how it is to this day.

«Ebara gidi gba», Awó of Orunmila, made the reading for Egungun — the Masked One — when he was coming from heaven to earth. He was told to make sacrifice for his honor, his prosperity and his standing before leaving heaven, and he sacrificed with different cloths, a rooster, a pigeon and a hen.
