Otura Yeku — also called Otura Aiku — is an odu of dark theology: here the great devilish power of Eshu was born, Lubeya speaks — the Devil who wanted to live in the world — and here Satan tempted Olofin from the top of a hill, offering him the kingdoms of the earth. Its first law comes straight out of that scene: make no pacts and do no business with powerful people, because you will lose — a pact with the Devil ends with the dog at your throat.

Its protective key is simple, and it is worn: a crucifix around your neck. And two debts that allow no games: the resguardo you have had for a long time — if you throw it away or give it back, you die — and what was promised to Azojuano is kept, because he will collect it the hard way.

The trouble underneath it all is impatience: you want everything to go well and go fast, and when a work does not give quick results you say religion is worthless — that is where you lose. There is a curse thrown, dreams with the dead and a sorcerer's prenda that does not belong to this religion: put your spiritual life in order instead of collecting it.

The warnings on the road: this is an Ifá of road accidents — do not go to the place you are thinking of, because there will be a failure. Be careful with anything brought to your house by way of a child, with a dog's bite — though a piece of luck comes to you that way too — and with someone else's theft that you will be threatened over: two doves and ekó to your head free you from that mix-up with the law. The woman married to an older man: obey him or put your life in order — that disobedience can cost you your life.

The body wants a dermatologist and balance: rashes, impetigo, psoriasis, the rotting of the bone that was born here, dizziness and falls. And the soul wants company and realism: do not live on fantasy, live in reality, and do not live cut off — join your family: the door is shut on the Devil with an orderly life, not with fear.

Illnesses of this Odù: skin rashes, impetigo, psoriasis, weakness of the body, circulation trouble, pain in the legs, blood pressure and dizziness; unsteadiness in walking, vertigo and frequent falls.

Patakíes of Otura Yeku · The roads of the Odù

1Obatalá's cook

Everyone envied Obatalá's oldest cook, and the upsets that this caused him led him to consult with Orunmila. Otura Yeku came out: Ifá ordered him an ebbó and told him to go handing it out along the road, with sugar in place of salt. The envious ones picked up that false salt and put it in the food; that day the food tasted better to Obatalá than ever, and what his enemies were plotting came out into the open. On this road rice pudding is put on Obatalá, cooked by the interested person themselves.

On this road, everyone envied Obatalá's oldest cook, and from so many upsets that this brought him he decided to consult with Orunmila. When the osode was done for him, this Odù came out, Otura Yeku, and Ifá ordered him an ebbó which, once finished, he had to hand out along the road: there sugar took the place of salt.

The envious ones picked up that supposed salt thrown on the road and put it in the food. That day the food tasted better to Obatalá than ever before, and that was how what his enemies were plotting came to light.

Note: on this road rice pudding is put on Obatalá, cooked by the interested person themselves.

2Faith lost

Ologui Fun wanted to make a journey, and however he arranged it he could not do it: something always turned up that ruined his plans, and by then he had lost his faith. One day he went to be read by Orunmila, who saw this Ifá for him and marked him a rogation, and told him to give rogation to his head before the journey so he would not fail. So Ologui Fun did — and afterward the journey he had longed for came about.

Ologui Fun meant to take a trip, and no matter how he arranged things he could never manage to leave: at the last minute some setback always appeared that knocked down his plans. From so many stumbles, Ologui had ended up losing his faith.

One day he decided to consult with Orunmila. Orunmila did the osode for him and saw this Ifá; he marked him rogation and told him to do rogation to his head before setting out on the trip he had in mind, so that it would not go wrong.

Ologui Fun did what he was told, and later on that trip he wanted so much came through.

3The resguardo

A man went to an osainista to get everything he wanted. They prepared a protection charm for him on the condition that he look after it, and they taught him how. Soon he had what he was after, but that care became a burden to him; one day he decided to get rid of the charm and threw it far from his house. On his way back, a boy with a puppy came out to meet him: "Sir, look what you left behind." He answered: "That is not mine," but the boy kept repeating it, until, fed up, he slapped him. The dog then bit him, the boy turned into Osain and the man ended up ruined.

On this road, a man went to look for an osainista with the idea of getting everything he wanted. The osainista explained that for that a protection charm had to be prepared for him, on the condition that he look after it, and he taught him how to do it.

It was not long before the man got everything he wanted; with time, however, he grew lazy about looking after the charm. One day he decided to get rid of it: he went out on the road and threw it far away from where he lived.

On the way back he ran into a boy carrying a puppy, and the boy spoke to him: "Sir, look what you left behind." He answered: "That is not mine." The boy did not move away and kept repeating the same thing over and over, until the man, fed up with it, slapped him. Seeing that, the dog bit him; the boy was turned into Osain, and the man ended up ruined.
