What Ifá says in this sign

Otura Yeku, also known as Otura Aiku, is a sign of temptation. Here are born the spirituality of the Devil and the great diabolical power of Eshu. Here the Devil is called Lubeya. In this sign he wanted to stay and live among people, and Satan tempted Olofin from a hilltop, offering him every kingdom of the world for his soul. Also born here are Obatalá Oshanile, the ailments of the skin and the bone that rots. Its ruling is a warning: do not make pacts or deals with powerful people, and do not enter into arrangements that seem easy, because there is no way out of them and you lose.

Eshu rules in this sign, for good and for ill. If you look after him with what he asks for, he gives you strength to make your way; if you neglect him, he pursues you and wrecks every plan. Your underlying flaw is impatience. When a work does not bear fruit right away, you say the religion does not work, and that is where you begin to lose. A curse has been placed on you, you dream of the dead and a dead spirit pursues you; you also owe something to a dead person. A misfortune awaits a relative, and your enemies are working so that those in your home look at each other with suspicion: do not live isolated, stay close to your own. There is risk of road accidents and dog bites, which are slow to heal and, if poorly treated, can cost you your life. You may be wrongly caught up in a legal matter over a theft: have your head cleansed in time.

In love, do not fall in love with a fantasy: what is dreamed falls apart when you get close. A very beautiful woman appears to the man and may accept him if he makes the ebbó without delay. Ifá asks the woman to put her life in order and settle a past she denies. Be careful not to lose a pregnancy. Patakíes of Otura Yeku · The roads of the Odù

1Obatalá's Cook

According to this path, everyone envied Obatalá's old cook. The troubles this brought him made him decide to consult Orunmila. When the reading was done, the odu Otura Yeku appeared, and Ifá ordered him to make an ebbó and, after finishing it, to spread it along the road. There, sugar took the place of salt.

The envious people gathered up that supposed salt from the ground and mixed it into Obatalá's food. That day the food seemed to him the tastiest he had ever tried, and so what the cook's enemies were preparing was uncovered.

On this path, Obatalá is served rice pudding, and the interested person must cook it himself.

What it teaches

The envy of others does not stop by itself, but what is plotted against a person can be revealed and turn against whoever devised it. A carefully made ebbó sweetens the harm that was sought.

2The trip that never worked out for Ologui Fun

Ologui Fun wanted to travel, but each time he had everything ready, a last minute problem came up and the trip was called off. After so many failed attempts he no longer trusted that he would ever leave.

So he decided to visit Orunmila. Orunmila performed the osode and found this Ifá. His advice was a rogation and, in addition, that Ologui Fun pray over his head before leaving, so that the trip would not end badly.

Ologui Fun obeyed. Some time later he finally made the journey he longed for.

What it teaches

Repeated obstacles are not overcome by discouragement but by taking care of the head. Doing what Orunmila orders before starting something keeps it from going wrong and lets the goal be reached.

Before leaving on a trip, a rogation is made and the head is prayed over, so that the trip does not go badly.

3The Protective Charm

A certain man sought out an osainista because he wanted to achieve everything he desired. The osainista told him that he had to make himself a protective charm and that he would always have to look after it; he also explained how to prepare it.

Very soon the man obtained everything he longed for. But as time went by, taking care of the charm began to tire him. One day he took it out of his house, walked down the road, and threw it a great distance away.

On the way back he met a boy who was bringing a small dog. The boy stopped him: “Sir, you left something behind.” “That does not belong to me,” the man answered. The boy kept repeating the same words and would not leave him alone, until the man lost his patience and slapped him. Then the dog bit him. The boy turned into Osain, and the man ended up ruined.

What it teaches

What is received on a condition must always be kept to that condition. Whoever tires of looking after what was given and pushes it away also loses what was gained, because what is abandoned comes back to collect its debt.
